Sounding Board Letter to the Editor: I have been to several meetings of my local Republican's Women's club in Galveston over the past six months and I have heard Chris Peden speak about running for Congress and why he wants to represent this district. I even saw where Mr. Peden is calling for an impeachment inquiry against our federal judge here in Galveston because of some funny business the judge has been involved in. Mr. Peden seems sincere in his conservative beliefs and passionate about his desire to represent us in Congress. On the other hand, I have yet to see or hear Ron Paul once talking about these issues or why he deserves to be reelected to the U.S. Congress. Ron Paul seems to be more interested in running for president than in representing this district in Congress. I'm going to vote for Chris Peden because if Ron Paul doesn't have the time to run for Congress, or the courtesy to admit that he's too busy to represent me, then he has not earned my vote. Letty Packard La Marque Dangerous measures Letter to the Editor: I've seen that businesses in one state have supported dangerous measures (measures that can and do take away funding from public services and disrupt other people's quality of life) in other states. It just has to stop. Since the Federal Elections Commission can't be trusted to do their jobs, I'd suggest that every citizen organize boycotts against any business or corporation, large or small, whose owners support dangerous measures in any state in this country until they stop doing so. I know we all remember what happened in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina and just recently in Minneapolis because the money wasn't there to strengthen New Orleans' levees or Minneapolis's I-35W freeway bridge. The worst thing is that people lost their lives in both instances because the local governments simply couldn't pay for the necessary repairs. That's how bad dangerous measures can be, so unless we boycott any business that supports dangerous measures they'll just keep doing it at our great expense. Please, let's all be wise and do the right thing. Gretchen Sand Kennewick, Wash. |
