Curtis Foerster

Graveside funeral services for Curtis Foerster, age 86, of Brownwood, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2007 at Eastlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Mary D. D'Alessio of Union Presbyterian Church officiating.

Mr. Foerster was born Dec. 3, 1920 in Paige, to Alfred Foerster and Louise Orts.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, A.J.; and his wife, Louise.

Mr. Foerster graduated from Giddings High School and Tyler Commercial College. He married Louise Ferguson on Aug. 4, 1942 in La Grange. Mr. Foerster served in the United States Naval Air Corps during World War II. He worked for Texas Gulf Sulfur Company in Newgulf, for 35 years, retiring as power plant manager in 1980. For several years he worked for TGS in Mexico.

In 1980 the Foersters moved to Brownwood where Curtis pursued his hobbies of building furniture and making custom hunting knives. He was renowned in knife-making circles and his honors included designing and producing knives for the L.A. Wilke Award of Excellence which recognizes the outstanding Texas Outdoor Writers Association members. Mr. Foerster was a longtime member of Union Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Carol Wolfe and husband Monta of Lubbock and Beverly Smith and husband Alva of Levelland; six grandchildren, Brian Wolfe of Corinth, Claire Suerker of Coral Gables, Fla., Brandon Gray of Benjamin, Brittany Gray of Vernon, Curtis Gray of San Angelo and Skyler Smith of Levelland; and two greatgrandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Union Presbyterian Church, 700 Fisk Ave., Brownwood, TX 76801; or to a charity of personal choice.
