WCJC offers candlelight concert Thursday

The Wharton County Junior College Music Department will present the annual Christmas Candlelight Concert Thursday at First Baptist Church in Wharton. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.

WCJC's Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, under the direction of Lee Lemson, will be joined by the Sivells Third Grade Choir directed by Pat Herring, and a community handbell choir under the direction of Nina Klingamon.

Selections will include traditional carols sung by the choirs and the audience, and carols from the Middle Ages through the present.

The choirs will be accompanied by piano, organ, with trumpets, trombones and timpani provided by the WCJC Concert Band under the direction of Joe Waldrop. The final selection will be the Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah by George Frederic Handel.

Audience members who have sung this popular chorus will be invited to sing this final selection. Music for Hallelujah will be provided.

This free concert is a Center for the Arts Presentation.
