Students take top UIL honors
Newgulf Elementary School in the Boling Independent School District competed at the District UIL meet held at Brazos Elementary in Orchard on Nov. 17.
Newgulf students earned the highest score of 527 points. Newgulf competed against elementary schools from East Bernard, Brazos, Danbury, and Damon.
More than 70 Newgulf students trained and competed in events ranging from second grade to fifth grade.
Competition results are:
Art Smart - Fourth grade: First place, Sierra Ganske; second place, Maggie Merecka; third place, Claire Winkenwerder; fourth place, Kate Cheney and fifth place, Anah Voulgaris. They were coached by Michelle Atkinson.
ArtSmart - Fifth grade: First place, Nathalie Guia; second place, Jena Herndon; third place, Kortlan Bell, fifth place, Peyton Metting and sixth place, Makayla Hobbs. They were coached by Stephanie Blanar.
Creative Writing - Second grade: First place, Haley Gavranovic; and third place, Kodi James. They were coached by Sherrie Guin.

Dictionary Skills - Fifth grade: Second place, Tyler Mann and sixth place, Amanda Casey. Their coach was Mona Stavinoha.
Listening Skills - Fifth grade: First place, Walker Monroe and fourth place, Adrian Alameda. Coaching them was Karen Loftin.
Maps, Graphs, and Charts - Fifth grade: Second place, Jesus Gonzalez and third place, Clayton Passman. Their coach was Linda Moore.
Music Memory - Grades 3,4 and 5: First place, Maya Hernandez, second place, Karla Conde, fourth place, Mia Hernandez and fifth place, Naomi Simmons. Their coach was Rene Cavazos
Number Sense - Fourth grade: Third place, Daniel Montgomery; fourth place, Myrissa Sanchez; and fifth place, Gale Penrice. Coaching them was Tonya Kulak.
Number Sense - Fifth grade: First place, Bianca Camacho and fourth place, Jessica Boerger. Lisa Stolle was their coach.

Oral Reading - Fourth grade: First place, Miles Tolbert; second place, Harold Taylor; and third place, Kaylor Rolf. Coaches were Tami Harrell and Melanie Garett.
Oral Reading - Fifth grade: Third place, Joey Garcia; fourth place, Karli Seymour and fifth place, Ellie Forgason. They were coached by Sarah Wilkins.
Ready Writing - Third grade: First place, Caroline Gavranovic; second place, Marco Jimenez; and fifth place, Paiton Kalina. Cathy Schoenfield was their coach.
Ready Writing - Fourth grade: Third place, Sierra Ganske. Amy Stavinoha was the coach.
Social Studies - Fifth grade: First place, Cynthia Kulak; third place, Chance Stidevent; and fifth place, Billy J. Yoes. Coach was Laura Wind.
Spelling - Third grade: Second place, Jared Schindler; fourth place, Marco Jimenez; and fifth place, Caroline Gavranovic. Linda Barbre was the coach.
Spelling - Fourth grade: First place, Kyle Smith; second place, Carmen Robles; and third place, Jamie Macek. They were coached by Amy Stavinoha.

Storytelling - Second grade: Sixth place, Kodi James; Storytelling - Third grade: Second place, Megan Chumchal; fourth place, Kymberlyn Garza; and fifth place, Roy Grosser. Their coaches were Dawn Arriaga and Kim Rolf.
Out of the 120 possible places at the meet, Newgulf had 53 students place in the top six of the 20 events.
