Austin singer-songwriter Bruce Robison performs for the first Wharton Plaza Theatre's concert series on Jan. 19. Tickets are now on sale.
Texans singer-songwriter Bruce Robison will headline the first of the Wharton Plaza Theatre's concert series on the square in Wharton on Jan. 19.

Robison performed with his brother Charlie at the Plaza five years ago before a sold out house.

Over the course of five critically acclaimed album releases (and one very cool Christmas record) Robison has become the natural successor to Texas songwriting.

His songs have been regularly hitting the upper reaches of the country charts in the hands of artists like the Dixie Chicks ("Travelin' Soldier"), Faith Hill and Tim McGraw ("Angry All the Time") and George Strait ("Desperately" and the aforementioned "Wrapped," which was nominated as 2007's Best Single of the Year by the Country Music Association).

Robison, who hails from the Hill Country town of Bandera, is currently performing Christmas shows with his wife Kelly Willis who is a singer-songwriter in her own right.

With a voice as unadorned and unaffected as Texas' wideopen spaces, Robison has a laid-back vocal knack for easing the listener into a song's emotional core.

The Plaza's cement walls make it an intimate auditorium with its terrific acoustics and great sightlines it's just the place to sit and listen to one of Texas' premiere singers.

The concession stand will be offering traditional movie theatre fare as well as beer and wine.

Tickets are $20 and are now on sale at the Plaza Box Office, 212B North Richmond Road, 979-282-2970 or www.whartonplazatheatre. org.
