Reynolds repeats as county volleyball MVP

      For the second year in a row, Wharton's Heather Reynolds garnered Most Valuable Player honors on the Wharton Journal-Spectator and El Campo Leader News All-Wharton County volleyball team. As a sophomore, she had 450 kills with 222 digs, 25 aces and 50 blocks.

      ROSENBERG - Wharton's boys and girls swim teams competed in a quad meet with Lamar Consolidated, Terry and Foster Thursday afternoon at the LCISD Natatorium. In the boys point standings, Foster totaled up 110 points and Wharton had 40.

      BRENHAM - Wharton's girls basketball team dropped a 51-47 decision to Brenham Tuesday night in Cub Gymnasium. Wharton jumped out to a 17-10 lead in the first quarter before Brenham rallied back to make it 23-21 Lady Tigers at halftime.

      WEIMAR - Wharton's boys basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season after beating Flatonia 48-36 Thursday afternoon in the Weimar Invitational Tournament. "The kids played very well and they have a lot of talent," said first year coach Mike Major.

Bulldogs drop season opener 67-39
      BOLING - The Boling boys basketball team dropped it's season opener to Hallettsville 67-39 Tuesday night in The Doghouse. The score was tied 8-8 after the first quarter but Hallettsville outscored Boling 20-7 in the second to go up 28-15 at halftime.

      COLUMBUS - Wharton's freshman boys basketball team beat Bellville 39-22 Thursday afternoon in the Columbus Invitational Tournament. The Tigers played a second round game on Friday and were guaranteed another game today.

      The Wharton Tigers clamped down defensively during two key stretches for an impressive 67-53 win over the Bay City Tuesday night at the Tiger Gymnasium. The victory improved the locals record to 2-0 on the season going into this weekend's Weimar Tournament.
