Elsie Chilek

Elsie Mae Chilek, age 86, of Boling, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007 in a Wharton hospital following an extended illness. She was born on Aug. 25, 1921 in Boling, a daughter of the late Vaclav Werner and Rosie Zemanek Werner.

Mrs. Chilek was a resident of the Boling area most of her life and was a member of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Boling. She married Adolph Bernard (A.B.) Chilek Sr. on Jan. 9, 1950 and he preceded her in death on April 15, 2007.

She worked as a registered nurse for many years before retiring in 1966. Mrs. Chilek enjoyed growing vegetables, canning her vegetables, following the Astros and watching Wheel of Fortune.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Elizabeth Ann Chilek; sisters, Vlasta Holt and Lydia Sabrasula; and a brother, Victor Werner.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. from the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Alvin Matthys officiating. A Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Bryan Heyer officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the service were Elmer Sabrasula, Wesley Werner, Johnnie Krenek, Frank Chilek, Jimmy Folmar and Jerod Guess

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Bernard and Sherlene Chilek, Jr. of Boling; grandson and wife Shawn and Jacquelynne Chilek; and great-grandchildren Colby Jack Chilek and Azalynne Maerose Chilek.

Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Mission c/o Holy Family Catholic Church, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, TX 77488.

Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
