Barbecue fund-raiser planned; band Iago students make region band

The Texas Jazz Tumble & Cheer group which competed at Reliant Park in Houston on Nov. 17 also included Haley Gavranovic on the Show Team and Caroline Gavranovic on the Ropers.

On Jan. 26 the Faith Christian Academy will host its annual Barbecue Chicken Fundraiser Dinner at the KC Hall in Wharton. Dinner and raffle tickets are now available.

The school also has Studded Cross T-shirts from infant to adult sizes along with candles by Candles & Moore for sale in the school office.

The Boling Independent School District Administrative Staff is hosting its 14th annual Christmas Open House at the administration office on Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Don't forget the special election scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 15.

Earlier this month, 22 students from the Iago Junior High Band participated in try-outs for region band.

Out of the 22 students, we are proud to report that 15 made Region Band. These successful students are: Tierney Steiner-flute; Savannah Steiner-flute; Roxanne Gangstad-flute; Katy Sheahan-flute; Angela Granados flute; Emily Cheneyclarinet; Erin Hollis-clarinet; Jesse Puckett-saxophone; Kirstyn Douglas-saxophone; Jenny Pospisil-trumpet; Gisselle Munoz-trumpet; Alex Arriaga-trumpet; Michael Rios-trombone; Marcus Lopez-tuba; and Roilan Jackson-tuba. Congratulations. The band directors for the junior high are Rolando Cantu and Alan Edge.

The Boling High School Band is busy preparing for their Region Band auditions scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8.

The BHS Speech Club recently hosted its 10th annual Speech Tournament with 14 other schools participating.

The Iago Lady Bullpups basketball teams played at East Bernard on Thursday.

The Seventh Grade Team defeated the Brahmarettes by a score of 24 to 21. Adrianna Grant led the way scoring 11 points. Ebony Jackson scored 6 points; My'Shonique Jackson added 4 points; Chantelle Bradley scored 2 points; and Lizzy Yurchak added a point.

The Eighth Grade B team lost a tough game in the final 15 seconds by a score of 10 to 8. Essence Williams scored 4 points; Tiffany Gillis and Angela Granados each scored 2 points.

The Eighth Grade A Team also lost a hard-fought battle by a score of 35 to 25. Gabrielle Hemphill scored 9 points; Holly Welch and Emma Sparkman each scored 4 points; Alexsis Aguilar added 3 points; Erin Hollis and Jenny Pospisil each scored 2 points, and Anna Gonzalez added another point on a freethrow.

All three teams played very well and everyone did a great job.

The next game for the Lady Bullpups is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 3, at Van Vleck.

A personal thank you to all of the wonderful staff at Gulf Coast Medical Center for the great care they gave my daughter Katie during her hospital stay this past week. Thanks also to all who offered prayer and support.
