Lady Tigers slip to 2-2 after loss to Navasota

NAVASOTA - Wharton's girls basketball team slipped to 2-2 on the season after dropping a 61-55 decision at state ranked Navasota last Tuesday.

Navasota jumped out to a 20-12 lead after the first quarter but Wharton rallied back in the second quarter to make it 32-29 Navasota at halftime.

The Lady Tigers then cut Navasota's lead to two points at the end of the third quarter, 46-44.

Navasota then came back to outscore Wharton 15-11 in the final eight minutes of the game to win by six.

Vernequa Taylor led the Lady Tigers scoring attack with 28 points.

Freshman Shaniqua Dogins finished with 18 points. Damaica Williams scored five and Chanda Jones and Desurae Matthews had two each.

Dogins also pulled down 12 rebounds. Johnson had nine and Latoy Lavan had four.

Taylor had four assists and Matthews had three.

Brateicka Mock led Navasota with 24 points.

Quisha Culbreath finished with 12 and Raven Palmer added 10.

Wharton played at Brenham last night and has an open date on Friday.

The Lady Tigers start playing for keeps on Dec. 4 in the Distict 24-3A opener against Sweeny.
