Selma Gartrell
Mrs. Gartrell passed away Nov. 25, 2007 at Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born Dec. 14, 1919 in Wharton. Mrs. Gartrell was reared in Wharton and spent most of her adult life living there before moving to the Texas Hill Country. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Nicholas Gartrell; her parents, Ollie Rae and William Felix Needham; and her sister, Dorothy Rae Stroud. She is survived by brother, Bill Needham and wife, Virginia, of Llano; son, Harry Gartrell and wife, Vickie, of Center Point; and daughter, Ann Copeland and husband, Don, of Sugar Land. She leaves four grandchildren: grandson, Rob Tiffany and wife, Cathy, of Seattle, Wash.; granddaughters, Ashley Griesemer and husband, Shawn, of Waco, Katherine Ottmers and husband, Jeffrey, of Fredericksburg, and Allison Roberts and husband, Jason, of Austin. She was blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Michael and Caroline Tiffany; Annie, Molly and Ben Griesemer; and Karsten and Aven Ottmers. Mrs. Gartrell is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, a multitude of friends and wonderful granddogs. Mrs. Gartrell was always the life of every party. She had a wicked sense of humor and was a crack shot on the ranch. She was past 80 when she shot her last rattlesnake outside of Harper. Mrs. Gartrell loved to travel and was always ready for a grand adventure. We will miss her fun loving and independent spirit. Her family would like to express its gratitude and thanks to Dr. David Rodriguez, the ICU nurses and fifth floor nurses for keeping her comfortable and giving her peace.
