Dogins selected 24-3A newcomer
      COLUMBUS - Wharton freshman Shaniqua Dogins was named the District 24-3A volleyball Newcomer-of-the- Year at last month's selection meeting held at Columbus High School. The teams couldn't be released until all three playoff teams from the district were eliminated from the post-season.

      Wharton High senior Brittany Gutierrez made it official Monday morning, signing to play softball at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville next year. Gutierrez, a third baseman, received several honors as junior for the Lady Tiger softball team.

      STAFFORD - Boling's girls basketball team dropped its season opener to Stafford 53- 26 Friday afternoon at Spartan Stadium. Stafford jumped out to a 146 lead after the first quarter and went up 22-10 at halftime.

      BOLING - The Boling girls basketball team slipped to 0-2 on the season after falling to Needville 79-53 Monday night in The Doghouse. Needville doubled up Boling 24-12 in the opening quarter and led 41-27 at the intermission.
