Lady Tiger cagers dealt 48-46 loss by Bay City

Wharton's girls basketball team dropped a 48-46 decision to Bay City Friday night in Tiger Gymnasium to slip to 2-1 on the season.

The Lady Tigers beat Bay City 56- 53 last Friday.

Wharton jumped out to a 7-6 lead after the first quarter built a 29-13 halftime advantage.

Bay City outscored Wharton 17-5 in the third quarter to make it 34-30.

The Lady Cats then outscored the Lady Tigers 18-12 in the final eight minutes for the win.

Wharton junior Vernquea Taylor poured in 13 points.

Chandra Jones finished with 11 points. Shaniqua Dogins scored eight, Damica Williams and Jalessa Jones scored six each and Latoy Lavan had a field goal.

Dogins also pulled down seven rebounds and Jones and Taylor had six each.

Desurae Matthews and Taylor each had four assists.

Wharton plays it's first of five road games on Tuesday against No. 8th ranked Navasota.

The Lady Tigers return to action after the Thanksgiving holidays and visits Brenham on Nov. 27.

Wharton starts playing for keeps on Dec. 4. when the Lady Tigers visit Sweeny in the District 24-3A opener.

The Lady Tigers play at Royal on Dec. 11 and visits Columbus on Dec. 14 before hosting Columbia on Dec. 18.
