EB girls finish 5th at regional CC meet

SAN ANTONIO - The East Bernard girls cross country team finished fifth among 24 teams at Saturday's Region IV, Class 2A Championships held at Brooks Air Force Base.

District 27-2A champion Brazos took the regional title with 60 points.

Little River Academy finished second with 81 points to earn a trip to the UIL Championships this Saturday at Settler's Park in Round Rock.

Salado was third with 83 points, Lexington was fourth with 142 points and the Brahmarettes finished with 188 points.

EB was followed by Hallettsville, Poth, Industrial, Odem, Rogers, George West, Navarro, Karnes City, Santa Rosa, San Antonio Cole, Bloomington, Weimar, Cotulla, Freer, Rivera, Onalaska, Franklin, Danbury and Jourdanton.

Brazos' Haleigh Pustka won the 2-mile race with a 12:15. Emily Koenig from Little River was second with a 12:22 and Lindsey Martin from Salado was third with a 12:28.

For East Bernard, Kelsie Merritt finished 17th among the 173 runners with a 13:07.

Christy Acevedo was 34th with 13:34; Amanda Walters, was 35th, 13:36; Kayla Tovar was 46th, 13:53; Libby Vincik was 79th, 14:39; and Amber Gertson was 130th, 15:46.
