City now becoming a travel destination Tourists don't always come in cars or RVs. Wharton is gaining a reputation as a destination for bus tours. There have been some 19 bus tours to our city thus far this year - not too shabby. They like our museums; they like our restaurants; they like our downtown; they like our town - period. This Saturday, we won't be seeing just another tour bus. We'll be hosting a bus full of tour bus operators. These are the people in charge of the tours themselves. Volunteers and the chamber staff have been working for several weeks to make sure we give a lasting and favorable impression on these tour bus operators. destination Also Saturday, the Monterey Square Market, a city-wide garage sale and craft festival, will be held in downtown Wharton. That same morning, the Wharton County Farmers' Market will be open as well for its second week. So lots will be going on to experience. And, of course, you're invited, too. Our town's confidence as a travel destination, perhaps, is not as high as it should be. People who live in a town that visitor's deem worth seeing often don't deem themselves as worth seeing. It is nothing new to towns everywhere. That kind of confi- dence is built one day at a time. And this Saturday will be a banner day. |
