South Zone Waterfowl Report
      Duck numbers are building across the coastal prairie. Eagle Lake, Garwood, Sealy, El Campo and any other ponds in the region are holding lots of teal, pintails, shovelers and gadwalls. Ponds are full and some are overflowing. Duck numbers are building on the coast as well.

      A wet year will be producing some outstanding deer this hunting season if the state's wildlife biologists are correct in their estimates. But the average hunter might never see one unless they get out of the deer blind, away from the feeder and out in the brush and woods.

Wharton plays at 5-1 Columbus Friday

      Wharton's playoff hopes were dampened last Friday after losing to Sweeny 52-21. But the 2-3 Tigers aren't washed up yet as they visit 3-1 Columbus in a must-win District 24-3A contest. The Cardinals share the league lead with Sealy, who owns the same record.

Wharton, Boling spiker teams try to advance in post-season playoffs
      Wharton and Boling's volleyball teams cranked up their respective playoff seasons Tuesday night. The Lady Tigers played District 23- 3A Caldwell in a bi-district match in Waller. A win puts Wharton into an area round playoff match against District 22-3A champion Cleveland later in the week.

      BOLING - Despite owning a 0-3 District 27-2A record, Boling is still in the hunt for the third and final playoff spot. The Bulldogs host a 1-2 Brazos Cougars team that is also fighting to make the playoffs.

Tennis team completes fall season
      SAN MARCOS - Wharton's tennis team finished second in Saturday's Class 3A Tournament held at San Marcos High School. Wharton went 2-1, taking 17 of 19 matches from Graham and 14 of 16 matches from Wimberley. Wharton won only three of 19 matches against Abilene Wylie.

EB cross country teams head to regional
      EAST BERNARD - East Bernard's boys and girls cross country teams head to San Antonio Friday night to compete in Saturday's Region IV, Class 2A Championships at Brooks Air Force Base. The two-mile girls race starts at 11:45 a.m.

Lady Tiger golfers play in LCISD tournament
      RICHMOND - Two Wharton golfers competed in Monday's Lamar Consolidated ISD Invitational Girls Tournament at the Fort Bend Country Club. Shea Flynn shot a 115 and Desurae Matthes shot a126 Host Lamar won tournament championship with a 18-hole team total of 370.

      EAST BERNARD - East Bernard's playoff football team returns to action Friday and takes on Katy Pope John XXIII for homecoming at Memorial Stadium. East Bernard, 3-1 in District 27-2A and 5-3 on the season, enjoyed its first open day last Friday.
