The Gold Star Award is the highest honor that a senior 4-H member can receive in the program.

The history of the Gold Star award goes back to 1933 when the first Gold Star was awarded to youth who were recognized for their hard work and efforts in 4-H.

This year Wharton County had three recipients recognized at the Gold Star Banquet in Victoria on Oct. 6.

They were Hannah Krenek from Boling, Laura Reyna from Wharton and Shelby Cooper from El Campo.

These three young ladies have participated in many different 4- H events from Food Show, Fashion Show, Wharton County Youth Fair, major livestock shows to holding many leadership positions on the local club, county and district levels.

They are to be highly commended for their hard work and efforts by their leaders "To Make the Best Better" and improve the 4-H program by their strong leadership.
