County 4-H Gold Star winners honored at Victoria banquet
      The Gold Star Award is the highest honor that a senior 4-H member can receive in the program. The history of the Gold Star award goes back to 1933 when the first Gold Star was awarded to youth who were recognized for their hard work and efforts in 4-H.

Area 4-H clubs host Fun Day for youngsters at fairgrounds on Oct. 28
      Wharton County 4-H will host a Fun Day from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Wharton County Fairgrounds in the Directors' Room. The day answers the question, "What is 4-H?" Come join youth from across the county to learn more about the 4-H program of Wharton County.

Palacios center transforms to New York City Oct. 27
      The Harvest Moon Dinner-Dance set for Oct. 27 will be a black and white affair - Texas Style. Its setting for the evening will be New York City when the Palacios Recreation Center is transformed for the Friends of the Library's annual event.

      This year, at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, Wharton's H-E-B will once again be sharing in the spirit of giving as it holds its annual Holiday Shopping Spree. The public is invited to participate in this event in one of two ways.

      Do you have any Spanish children books you are not using?' Former Wharton resident Mary Ann Brown who is on the board of directors of Refuge International sure can use those books. Mary Ann is a lab technologist who used to work in Wharton at one of the clinics, that is how I met her.

      Ray'Shaud Hawkins Jazma Brittany Johnson and Rhaleigh De'Cameron Hawkins, both of Wharton, announce the birth of their child, a boy, born at 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. The baby was named Ray'Shaud Dalarius Hawkins and weighed 6 lbs., 11 ozs.

      The Iago Lady Bullpup volleyball teams will host Hitchcock on Monday, Oct. 22 for their final matches of the season. The Lady Bullpups have had a great season. Games will start at 4:30 p.m. in the newly refurbished Iago Junior High School Gym.

WCYF turkey orders due Nov. 1
      Any 4-H or FFA member interested in raising turkeys for the 2008 Wharton County Youth Fair must order their turkeys by Thursday, Nov. 1, at a cost of $2.50 per bird. There is a minimum order of 10 birds per exhibitor, maximum of 30 poults.
