Brahmas fourth quarter rally falls short against Hitchcock 46-40 HITCHCOCK - A fourth quarter rally by East Bernard fell short as Hitchcock held on for a 46-40 win Friday night at Bulldog Stadium. Luis Roldan's 15 yard touchdown run and Chris Plunkett's kick with 2:17 remaining in the game closed the gap to six points. The Brahmas got the ball back after a Hitchcock punt with only 15 seconds left and managed to get off two plays. The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 in District 27-2A play and the Brahmas slipped to 2-1 Hitchcock struck first with 8:51 remaining in the first quarter on a 15- yard run by Anthony McClain. Justin Mata booted the extra point kick to make it 7-0. One play after the ensuing kickoff, Brahmas Lance Crump raced 58 yards for a touchdown with 8:38 remaining. Chris Plunkett's kick tied the score at 7-7. Then with 3:36 remaining in the third quarter, Hitchcock quarterback Morris Tuck connected with Devante Provost on 84 yard scoring strike. Mata's kick put the Bulldogs up 14- 7. The Brahmas came back in the second quarter and got a 26-yard field goal by Plunkett with 10:09 remaining to make it 14-10 game. Hitchcock's Darius Datson caught a line drive kick and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. The missed kick left Hitchcock with a 20-10 lead. East Bernard answered with a Luis Roldan 20-yard touchdown run and Plunkett kicked with 6:28 remaining to make it 20-17. Hitchcok responded with a 4-yard touchdown run by McClain with 6:47 remaining to go up 26-17. A 2-point conversion pass failed. With only 22 seconds remaining until halftime, McClain caught a 40-yard touchdown pass Tuck. The missed conversion left the Bulldogs with a 32-17 lead. The Brahmas came back to make it 32-23 with 8:34 remaining in the third quarter on a 6-yard run by Cameron Mazoch. Plunkett failed to get the extra point kick on a bad snap. Hitchcock answered when Tuck connected with Bradley Williams on a 24-yard touchdown pass with seven minutes remaining. Datson added the 2-point conversion to bring the score to 40-23. With 3:23 remaining, Crump scored from the three and Plunkett's kick made it 40-30. Plunkett then booted a 27-yard field goal with 6:42 remaining in the fourth quarter to cut Hitchcock's lead to 40- 33. Jordan Turner then caught a 14 yard pass from Tuck for a score with 2:59 remaining. The 2-point conversion failed leaving the score at 46-33. East Bernard then begin its final scoring drive. East Bernard totaled up 444 yards in the game and Hitchcock finished with 378. Crump picked up 196 yards on 19 carries. Roldan rushed for 158 yards on 16 carries and Mazoch had 62 yards on seven carries. Matt Stelzel completed two of 10 passes for 25 yards. Tuck completd 14 of 20 passes for 331 yards. Provost caught four passes for 131 yards. McClain caught three passes for 67 yards and Williams caught three passes for 56 yards. East Bernard, now 4-3 on the season, hosts rival Brazos next Friday. The Cougars had an open date after losing to Hitchcock last Friday. |
