Danbury hangs on for 22-18 district win over Bulldogs DANBURY - Kris Turbin's 19-yard touchdown run with 3:22 remaining in the game gave Danbury a come-frombehind 22-18 win over Boling in Friday's District 27-2A game at Humber Field. Boling took the ensuing kickoff and drove to the Panther 35 yardline before turning the ball over on downs with 52 seconds left. The Bulldogs had gone up 18-16 on a 5-yard run by quarterback Justin Hobbs with 5:22 remaining. The conversion try failed and Danbury begin its winning drive. On a third and 15, quarterback Scott Zimmerle connected on a 49 yard pass to the Bulldog 19. The touchdown came three plays later. The loss was Boling's first in district and Danbury evened its league record at 1-1. The Panthers took advantage of a Boling fumble to score their first touchdown in the first quarter and took over at its own 34-yardline. Seven plays later, Turpin scored from the 15-yardline with 7:22 left. Steven Wilson booted the extra point kick to put the Panthers up 7-0. Danbury took advantage of another Boling fumble. Ten plays later, Wilson booted a 24yard field goal with 1:29 remaining to put the Panthers up 10-0. Boling's Tanner Thompson recovered a Danbury fumble with under eight minutes left in the second quarter. Three plays later, with 6:40 remaining, Hobbs connected with Sean Hollis on a 39-yards scoring strike. Boling missed the 2-point conversion leaving Danbury with a 10-6 lead. Boling's Thomas Felder recovered an onside kick to start the third quarter but the Bulldogs turned the ball over on downs at the Panther 15-yardline. Danbury then drove to the Bulldog 28 with 4:38 remaining and turned the ball over on downs. Boling took it's next possession and drove to the Panther 20-yardline in the fourth quarter bu turrned it over again. Four plays later, Zimmerle scored on a 4-yard run with 10:52 remaining to give the Panthers a 16-6 lead. Hobbs returned the ensuing kickoff to the Danbury 42 yardline. Just 19 seconds later, he connected with Felder on a 42-yard scoring strike. The missed conversion left the Panthers with a16-12 lead. Boling recovered a Danbury fumble with 7:44 remaining. B.W. McLeod picked up 43 yards on three carries. It set up Boling's final touchdown. Boling totaled up 347 yards in the game, 198 rushing and 138 passing. Danbury finished with 334 yards, 171 on the ground and 163 through the air. Hobbs completed nine of 17 passes and had two interceptions. McLeod rushed for 138 yards pm 21 carries and Hobbs picked up 60 yards on 19 carries. Boling, now 2-3 on the season, hosts Caney Creek rival Van Vleck next Friday. The Leopards had an open date after losing their district opener to East Bernard 34-33 last Friday. |
