Zigmund Borecky

Zigmund Simon Borecky, age 77, of East Bernard, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007 at a Wharton hospital following a brief illness. He was born on Sept. 30, 1930 in Wharton County, the son of the late Joe Borecky and Annie Vanek Borecky.

Mr. Borecky was a lifelong resident of East Bernard and was a self-employed Hungerford farmer until his retirement in 1989. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge. He married Julia Margaret Kubena on Sept. 24, 1956 in East Bernard. Mr. Borecky was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Hungerford and the East Bernard American Legion Post No. 226. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Borecky was preceded in death by a brother, Alex Borecky; and granddaughter, Lexi Zaruba.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. with a parish rosary Sunday evening, Oct. 14, 2007 at 7 p.m. at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2007 at St. John's Catholic Church in Hungerford with Rev. Henry Rachunek offi- ciating. Burial will follow in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Hungerford.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Murrile, Andy Smerek, Dustin Smerek, Taylor Borecky, Dwayne Grigar and Mark Michalec Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Julia Borecky of East Bernard; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie Murrile of Sugar Land, Jenny Michalec and husband Mark and Joyce Zaruba and husband Tim, all of Needville; son, Marion Borecky and wife, Melissa, of Rosenberg; sister, Irene Wleczyk of Rosenberg; grandchildren, Tony Murrile, Stephanie Murrile, Amber Borecky, Taylor Borecky, Andy Smerek, Dustin Smerek, Kaitlyn Michalec, Mark Michalec Jr. and Haylee Zaruba.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to the St. John's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 121, Hungerford, TX 77448; or the East Bernard American Legion Post No. 226, 8110 N. Highway 60, East Bernard, TX 77435.

Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
