On May 24, 1947, 37 seniors sat together at graduation in what is now the old Wharton Junior High School Gym.
According to graduate Margaret Scheller it had rained "buckets" that night stopping just long enough for the graduates to march into the gym.
On Sept. 15, 22 of those graduates and their guests sat together again for a 60th class reunion held at Hinze's Bar-B-Que Restaurant.
There was a brief program which included at "test" and then a moment of silence was held for the 15 members of the class who are deceased.
Each classmate got to tell what each of them were currently doing. The most important part of the whole event was the visiting and reminiscing.
Gertrude Bremser Burrows and Mary Sue Mann Humberson coordinated the affair. Scheller said the event ended with a cute reading on being old.
She said by 3 p.m. everyone was gone so the members could get home by dark.
Scheller said the luncheon was highly successful and near perfect for 60 years and counting.
She said a parting poem was offered:
"May our friendship never come apart, especially when its straight from the heart.
May you always have a rainbow of smiles on your face and in your heart forever and ever - Friends forever."
