Interest builds for holiday parade entries

The chamber office is receiving lots of telephone calls from those interested in participating in the Christmas Parade.

The parade will be Tuesday, Nov. 20, with line-up at 6 p.m. and the parade starting at 7 p.m. Entry forms are available at the chamber office, 225 N. Richmond Road. For more information, call us at 532-1862. We are very excited, and anticipate a great one.

Volunteers are needed for the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center sponsored by the Lower Colorado River Authority, the Colorado River Foundation and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

The collection center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Texas Department of Transportation office at 1512 FM 102l

If you are interested in volunteering, it's fun, call city hall at 532-2491 or the county judge's office at 532-4612.

In other chamber news, this Friday, Oct. 12, we will host our 18th bus tour group visiting Wharton.

This group of about 30 is from St. Mark Lutheran Church in Houston.

And remember that the Wharton Volunteer Fire Department will have a Barbecue Cook-off on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12 and 13, at Riverfront Park. Call 5532-4811, ext. 601, for entry forms.

The next Free Homebuyer Education Class at Civic Center will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. Call 281-484- 4663 to register.

Wharton County Youth Fair will sponsor the Triumphs in concert at Crescent Hall, Saturday, Oct. 13, at 8 p.m. Proceeds go for fairgrounds improvements.

Halloween is around the corner, and the Party Mouse is hosting two popular events that brings out lots of children on Saturday, Oct. 27.

One is Build-a-Scarecrow, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. You bring the clothes and the cost is $1 for everything else.

The other is the Pumpkin Parade, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Call the Party Mouse at 282- 8500 for entry forms and more information on both popular events.
