The Bellamy Brothers, David and Howard, were a big hit at Saturday's Wharton Rotary Gala at the Wharton Community Center.

The dance floor was filled with couples during their 90-minute show and the audience of 500 was attentive and sang along.

"We got rave reviews," said Rotarian Doc Blakely.

"People liked the round tables and being able to dance. They hung around all evening."

Their set included songs such has "Let Your Love Flow," which was their first hit in 1976.

They also sang. "If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body," "Sugar Daddy," "Dancin' Cowboys," "Lovers Live Longer," "Do You Love As Good As You Look," "Get Into Reggae Cowboy," "Redneck Girl," "Country Rap," "When I'm Away From You," "Old Hippie" and an encore song, "Santa Fe."

They also played two gospel songs from their new CD, "Drug Problem" and "Jesus Is Coming."

Their voices were as good as they were when they started singing in the early 1970s.

The evening also featured humorist Al Walker and the voice of Pam Hubenak who sang several songs.

"It was a win, win situation," said Blakely.

The Florida natives signed CDs and pictures following the show.

Over $67,000 was grossed from the function which had several sponsors who paid for the entertainment,

Proceeds benefit the Wharton Boys and Girls Club and other civic organizations around the county.
