Wharton JV football team claims 48-12 win over Royal
Tigers own 5-0 season record

BROOKSHIRE - Wharton's junior varsity football team improved to 2- 0 in District 24-3A play after beating Royal 48-12 Thursday night at Falcon Stadium.

Royal jumped out to a 6-0 lead early in the first quarter and Wharton answered with two touchdowns to make it 12-6.

The Tigers added two more scores in the second quarter to go up 26-6 at halftime.

Wharton picked up two more touchdowns in the third quarter to make it 42-6.

Royal then made it 42-12 but the Tigers picked up a touchdown before the game ended to bring the score to 48-18.

Wharton quarterback Doug Ford threw three touchdown passes. Keamon Jones caught two and Elijah Richardson caught one.

Brady Ward, Erin Carranza and MarKeith Kearney had rushing touchdowns.

Defensive standouts included Tyrik Dickerson, Ricky Salinas, Eric Moers, Ryan Sanchez, Patricio Cervantez and Joey Jackson who forced and recovered a fumble.

Wharton, now 5-0 on the season, hosts Columbia next Thursday.
