Tiger freshman drop 56-20 decision

BROOKSHIRE - Wharton's freshman football team dropped a 56-20 decision to Royal at Falcon Stadium Thursday afternoon.

Royal jumped out to a 16-0 lead early in the first quarter after two touchdowns and two extra points.

Tiger David Zaskoda scored on a 6-yard run to make it 16-6. The conversion try failed.

The Falcons added two more touchdowns and 2-point conversions in the second quarter to go up 32-6.

Tiger Chris Smith returned a kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown to make it 32-12 at halftime.

Royal picked up 10 points in the third quarter to go up 40-12.

Wharton's final touchdown came in the fourth quarter when Ken Lowery caught a 34-yard pass from Edward Robledo.

Shane Wessels then caught the two point conversion pass to complete the scoring.

Offensive standouts inlcluded Rodney Clark, Kendall Curtis, Carlos Looper and Nemiah Hardaman.

Wharton, now 0-2 in District 24-3A play and 0-5 on the season, will host Columbia next Thursday.
