Tiger JV beats Sealy in 24-3A opener

Wharton's junior varsity football team beat Sealy 32-28 in last Thursday's District 24-3A opener at Tiger Stadium.

Sealy went up 6-0 on a 14-yard touchdown run with 7:54 in the first quarter.

Wharton came back to tie the score on a 52-yard scamper by Brady Ward with 7:21 left.

Then with 4:37 remaining, Wharton quarterback W. Ephram connected with Doug Ford on a 40-yard scoring strike. The missed conversion left Wharton with a 12-6 lead.

Sealy came back to tie the score on a 25-yard fumble return for a touchdown with 4:10 left in the second quarter.

The Tigers from Austin County went up 20-12 on a 4-yard touchdown and 2- point conversion with 6:45 remaing in the third quarter.

Wharton responded when Ford connected with Elijah Richards on a 40- yard touchdown pass. The 2-point conversion tied the score at 20-20.

Sealy went up 28-20 on a 23-yard touchdown pass with 5:56 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Ford then hooked up with Richardson on a 47-yard touchdown pass with 4:23 left on the clock to make it 28-26.

Then with 1:54 left in the game, Ford kept the ball and raced 17 yards in the endzone for a score to make it 32-28.

Richardson finsihed the game with 87 yards rushing and Ward had 82.
