Tennis team shows strength Wharton's tennis team showed its strenght by taking 13 of 19 matches from Class 4A Angleton Tuesday afternoon at the WCJC Kelly Tennis Center. "We played well and finally won some close matches," said Wharton coach Roben Eller. "We are making progress and improving each week." In boys singles matches, Ryan Mc- Micken lost to Josh Sebesta 6-0, 6-2. Eric Doetsch beat Chase Sanders 4-6, 6-3, 10-7; Chris Feyen beat Blake Trower 6-4, 2-6, 10-8; Calvin Boem lost to Austin Christenson 6-4, 6-0; Sylvester Mayfield lost to Tyler Kivi 6-4, 6-2 and Patrick Tuley beat Michael Rodriguez 6-1, 4-9, 10-8. In girls singles matches, Jessica Kainer beat Elizabeth Peltier 7-6, 6-3; Kim Janik beat Katie Fugus 6-2, 6-0; Rachel Gubbels beat Kaleigh Kubala 3-6, 6-1, 10-9; Paige Mata beat Emily Dellinger 6-1, 6-2; Paige Bahnsen beat Ryan Otterson 6-2, 6-1; Christie Viktorin won her match 8-3. and Ashley Aaronson lost to Kathryn Head 6-3, 7-5 In boys doubles matches, Feyen and McMicken lost to Trower and Christensen 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. In girls doubles matches, Aaronson and Viktorin beat Mireles and Rosas 6- 1, 6-0. Kainer and Bahnsen beat Peltier and Outterson 6-3, 6-4 and Rachael Kocian and Janik beat Kubala and Dellinger 6-3, 7-5. And in a mixed doubles match, Boehm and Gubbels lost to Sebesta and Head 6-0, 6-3. |
