Tigers win 14-7 defensive battle over Royal
Phynon scores winning touchdown, intercepts two passes

      Wharton's first victory of the season was a defensive battle against Royal Friday night at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers got a 13-yard touchdown run by Kenneth Phynon and an extra point kick by Justin Sherrill with only three seconds left in the third quarter to go up 14-7.

Lady Tigers secure hold on 3rd place in 24-3A standings

      Wharton took a step closer in securing one of the three District 24-3A volleyball playoff spots by beating Sweeny 25-15, 25-16, 25-15 Tuesday night at Tiger Gymnasium. The third place Lady Tigers improved to 6-2 to start the second round of league play and fourth place Sweeny slipped to 4-4.

Tennis team shows strength

      Wharton's tennis team showed its strenght by taking 13 of 19 matches from Class 4A Angleton Tuesday afternoon at the WCJC Kelly Tennis Center. "We played well and finally won some close matches," said Wharton coach Roben Eller.

Tiger JV beats Sealy in 24-3A opener
      Wharton's junior varsity football team beat Sealy 32-28 in last Thursday's District 24-3A opener at Tiger Stadium. Sealy went up 6-0 on a 14-yard touchdown run with 7:54 in the first quarter. Wharton came back to tie the score on a 52-yard scamper by Brady Ward with 7:21 left.
