      A week ago Wednesday, Wharton's Dairy Queen brought in more than $1,200 in sales. This past Wednesday? Just over $600. Manager Lawson "Smitty" Smith blames the orange cones now lining Richmond Road. The cones have entirely blocked off traffic approaching from the south.

Truck wreck said due to driver error

      The driver of an 18-wheeler that overturned and closed down both north-bound lanes of U.S. 59 for two hours has been cited by the Wharton Police Department. The driver has been identified as Jose Benavides Jr., 54, of Houston, according to the police department report.
