BOLING - Boling returns to the gridiron Friday night after taking a second week off to play the surprisingly resurgent Palacios Sharks.

The Bulldogs lost to county rival Louise 35-14 two weeks ago, dropping the Bulldogs to 1-2 on the year while the Sharks are coming off a 38-7 win over Victoria St. Joseph.

"The kids are eager to get back out on the field," said Boling coach Neal Majewski. "We're probably one of the few teams in the state that's only played three games."

"The kids are ready to come out and prove themselves and say we are better than our record shows," said Majewski. "I'm looking for us to come out and get our confidence back up."

Palacios is 4-1, losing only to Edna by the slimmest of margins, 14-13, in their season opener on Aug.31. The Sharks then went on to beat Tidehaven, Brazos, Danbury and the Flyers,

"We have our work cut out for us and we have to go to their place," said Majewski. "There are a lot of things that we have to overcome and that's why I'm looking forward to seeing how we react and how we play."

Third year Palacios coach Mike Treybig is proud of his team's sucess.

"I just think that us having 10 starters on offense and eight back on defense is big," said Treybig. "I think that type of experience has paid off."

Palacios will have another incentive as it's homecoming.

"The whole community is excited right now," said Treybig. "We're doing some things that hadn' been done around Palacios in a long time.

"It makes for excting football games. It's standing room only every Friday night and kids are excited about it."

The Bulldogs beat Palacios 41-13 last year but the Sharks are a 32-point favorite according to Pigskin Prep.

"They are the best team we've played yet," said Majewski. "We have our work cutout for us and we have to go to their place.

"There are a lot of things that we're going to have to overcome and that's why I'm looking forward to seeing how we react and how we play."

This is 35th time for the teams to play since they first played in 1933. Boling has won 24 games and Palacios has won 9. There was a 6-6 tie in 1958. They last played in 1987 and Boling won 33-7. The Bulldogs also won in 1984 and 1987.

Palacios's last trip to the playoffs was in 1965.

Majewski was pleased with his team's workout last week.

"It was a productive week," said Majewski. " We hit some of our basict stuff and got some people healthy.

"It was a little break and re grouping after the Louise game."

This is a big game for both teams who start their respective district scheduled next Friday when Boling will visit Danbury in their 27-2A opener and Palacios will host state-ranked Cuero in their 29-3A opener.

"We know that from here on out, it's full steam ahead and this is the one that kind of kicks us into district," said Majewski.

"Ultimately it doesnt matter if we win or lose if we get into the playoffs," said Majewski.

"However it's a big statement game for us that we need to prove to ourselves that we are better that we showed at Louise.

"We need to play good for confi- dence. The guys were upset the way they played against Louise and looking to redeem themselves.

"Its just one game and one game does not dictate how good or how bad you are," said Majewski.

Palacios has outscored its five opponents 169-61 and is averaging 382 yards per game. The defense is yielding 187 yards per game and has five pass interceptions.

The Sharks run the Wing T and rely on only four plays. "I told Boling jokingly their scouting reports before last Friday night's game that we run Wing T right and left," said Treybig. "We run the belly, the toss and the lead."

Junior runningback Henry Solis leads District 29-3A with 15 touchdowns and he has rushed for 1,271 yards. Alex Sanchez has scored one touchdown and rushed for 213 yards.

"From top to bottom they are very good," said Majewski of Solis and Sanchez.

Palacios isn't a fancy team and runs a vanilla type offense.

"They are not complicated but they are very, very good and we have to stop their run game," said Majewski.

"They're an agressive team and get after it. Defensively their linebackers are big and strong. Their front four are quick and athletic and their secondary are tough kids.

"If we can force them into some third and long situations, they will have to throw the ball and that's not something they want to do."

Majewski said it will take a combination of things to come out on top.

"It's going to be tough," said Majewski. "We have to hang on to the ball and we cant have turnovers. It would be nice if we could force some turnovers and have no penatlies."

He expects a tough test from Boling. "They have some athletes," said Treybig reffering to running back B.W. McLeod who has scored six touchdowns and rushed for 316 yards.

"He's an awful good runner and we're going to have our hands full."
