Kitchen argument leads to stabbing, police say An apparent domestic dispute ended with a Wharton man being taken to the hospital for stab wounds. Police said the man, identified as 31-year-old Lealex F. Jones, was treated and released at Gulf Coast Medical Center for wounds to arm and back. Epifania Lynn Moreno, 25, was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She was later released after posting $15,000 bond. Police allege Moreno stabbed Jones at their residence, No. 59 of the Meadows Apartments, 501 W. Willow Lane. "It appears they had an altercation in the kitchen of the apartment," said Detective Joey Galloway of the Wharton Police Department. "The suspect (Moreno) took a steak knife - whether in defense we're not real sure yet - and stuck it into the victim (Jones)." Jones was stabbed at least twice, once in the left forearm and once in the back. Wharton EMS attended to Jones at the scene before transporting him to the hospital for further evaluation. Sgt. Ben Guanajuato and Officer Richard Cruz responded to the incident, which was reported around 10:40 p.m. Friday. Police said the couple has children who were present at the time of the alleged assault but were asleep in another room. It's not yet clear what started the disagreement. |
