      Houston area news reports Tuesday of a man's body being discovered in a river led some area residents to the conclusion that missing radio personality Bobby Jones had been found. That was not the case.

      Reader, if you wonder what (30) means, you probably don't know that telegraph operators signaled the end of their message when they tapped (30). Newspaper reporters adopted the tradition and typed (30) to signify end of the story.

Boling highway project takes big step forward

      A significant step forward has been taken in the city's plans to extend FM 1301 to the freeway. The Wharton City Council recently approved a purchase agreement with the Union Pacific Railroad for a 4.78 acre tract at the intersection of FM 1301 and Richmond Road, just south of Subway.

Kitchen argument leads to stabbing, police say

      An apparent domestic dispute ended with a Wharton man being taken to the hospital for stab wounds. Police said the man, identified as 31-year-old Lealex F. Jones, was treated and released at Gulf Coast Medical Center for wounds to arm and back.
