Lady Tigers notch win over Stafford STAFFORD - Wharton's volleyball team remained in third place in the District 24-3A standings with their win over Stafford Tuesday night at Spartan Gymnasium. The Lady Tigers won 25-18, 25- 7, 25-17 to improve to 4-2 in district play. Wharton played a 3-3 Sealy Friday night to complete the first round of league play. Heather Reynolds led Wharton's offensive attack with 14 kills. She also had two blocks, two aces and one assit. Vernequa Taylor contributed with eight kills, eight digs and one block. Sharneace Johnson added seven kills, two digs, two blocks and one ace. Jalessa Jones had two kill with four digs and one ace, Brittany Gutierrez had two kills, two digs and two aces. Setter Megan Joost had 32 assists with four digs and one ace. Judith Sanchez had two digs. In other league play, Needville beat Royal 25-11, 25-7, 25-10 and Columbus beat Columbia 25-17, 25-19, 25- 20. Both the Lady Jays and Cardinals improved to 6-0 before they took to the court in Bluejay Gymnasium last night to battle it out for the district lead. Sweeny was 2-4 before playing 3-3 Columbia. The second round of league play starts Tuesday when Wharton will host Sweeny, Royal will play at Sealy, Columbus is set to host Stafford and Needville will entertain Columbia.
