WCJC whips Coastal Bend
Alvin forfeits Monday's district match

BEEVILLE - WCJC thought it had evened its District M Region XIV volleyball record to 3-3 after beating Coastal Bend College 30-25, 30-21, 30-19 Thursday night.

But WCJC officials learned Thursday that Alvin Community College had to forfeit the match it won Monday.

Alvin coach Geoffery Kiessling had been ejected during the second game of the match after receiving two red cards.

After WCJC won the first two games, officials allowed him to return to the court for the next three games - which Alvin won.

NJCAA rules state that once a coach is ejected, he or she is not allowed to return. Forfeiture was the penalty.

So the Lady Pioneers are 4-2 in league play instead of 3-3.

The Dolphins lost to league opponant San Jacinto College on Wednesday 30-23, 30-26, 30-2. The Ravens improved to 4-0. Coastal Bend slipped to 0-4.

Laredo entered Friday's home match against Galveston with a 2-1 record and the Whitecaps were 1-1.

"We played pretty good," said WCJC coach Brianna Florus, referring to Thursday's match against Coastal Bend.

"We set some goals and accomplished them. We came playing pretty hard as a team and we were more mentally focused."

"They worked well together as a team and that's what helped us get the win."

WCJC totaled up 53 kills in the match. Chelsie Fowler finished with 16. Emmy Rodgers had 15. Amanda Yeager had six, Helen Camarillo had five. Kadeem Brinkley and Christina Moceanu had four each, Savannah had two and Tracey Beicker had one. Brinkley and Fowler each had two aces. Brinkely Camarillo each had three blocking assists.

Moceanu had 43 setting assists and Yeager had three.

Fowler also contributed with 35 digs. Yeager finsished with 21, Beicker added 20, Moceanu added 18, Brinkley had 16, and Rodgers had three.
