Tennis team dominates Edna

Wharton tennis team's hard work and playing tough opponents paid off on Tuesday at the WCJC Kelly Tennis Center.

The Tigers dominated Edna by winning 18 of 19 matches.

"We played pretty well against them," said Wharton coach Roben Eller.

"It was a good match to help build our confidence.

"We have a tough Saturday ahead of us, and we need to get some momentum

going into it." Wharton plays Willis and Montgomery today in Huntsville.

"Having confidence will be the key for us," said Eller.

"We have to believe in ourselves, and then we will win some of those close individual matches we lost last Saturday."

In boys singles matches, Chris Feyen lost 6-4, 7-6. Ryan McMicken won 6-4, 6-0; Ric Doetsch won 6-3, 6-0; Sylvester Mayfield won 6-1, 6-0; Calvin Boehm won 6-3, 6-1; Patrick Tulley won 6-0, 6-0; Manesh Perera won 6-0, 6-0 and Cody Coufal lost 8-6.

In girls singles matches, Ashley Aaroson won 6-0, 6-1. Paige Mata won 6-3, 6-0; Paige Bahnsen won 6-0, 6-0; Magen Lesak won 6-0, 8-0 and Sarah Gubbels won 8-0.

In boys doubles matches, Feyen and McMicken won 8-6. Doetsch and Mayfield won 8-2; Kole Kubicek and Ethan Massey won 8-0 and Coufal and Perera won 8-0.

In girls doubles matches, Christie Viktorin and Aaronson won 8-0. Kim Janik and Jessica Kainer won 8-0 and Rachael Kocian and Bahsen won 8-0.

And in a mixed doubles match, Tulley and Gubbels won 8-3.
