Brahmas wait until 2nd half to bury Danbury Panthers, 48-21

DANBURY - East Bernard waited until the second half to put away Danbury in Friday's District 27-2A opener at Humber Field, 48-21.

The Brahmas fell behind 13-0 after the first quarter and tied the game at intermission.

EB took the momentum into the third quarter and outscored Danbury 21-0 to go up 34-13.

The Brahmas added two more scores in the fourth quarter and the Panthers got a touchdown with only 18 seconds left in the game.

The win was East Bernard's 28th straight over Danbury dating back to 1973. Danbury beat EB in 1972 when they played for the first time.

Panther quarterback Dillion Peltier connected with Jake DeBerry on a 27- yard scoring strike with 9:53 remaining in the first quarter.

Steve Nelson booted the extra point to make it 7-0.

Wilson then caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Peltier with 3:51 remaining to make it 13-0. The extra point kick failed.

East Bernard responded with 10:53 remaining in the second quarter when Matthew Stelzel connected with Chris Plunkett on a 24-yard touchdown pass. The extra point kick failed, leaving Danbury with a 13-6 lead.

Then with only 41 seconds showing on the clock, Michael Hayes scored from the 4. Plunkett's kick tied the score at 13-13.

The Brahmas got things going in the third quarter when Lance Crump scored on a 14-yard run with 9:24 remaining. Plunkett's kick put the Brahmas up 21-13.

Then with 7:10 remaining, Plunkett scored on a 50-yard run and his kick made it a 28-13 game.

EB got the ball back and Plunkett scored from the 10 with 2:09 remaining.

The missed extra point left the Brahmas with a 34-13 lead.

Luis Rodan scored East Bernard's first touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 6-yard run with 9:27 remaining. Plunkett's kick made it 41-13.

Crump raced 42 yards to paydirt with 7:47 remaining and Plunkett's kick put the Brahmas up 48-13.

Peltier passed 11 yards to Wilson for the Panthers' last touchdown. Wilson also added the 2-point conversion to bring the score to 48-21.

East Bernard totaled up 363 yards on the ground to Danbury's only 45. The Panthers had 170 yards through the air.

Hayes rushed for 98 yards on 11 carries. Crump finished with 126 yards on eight carries.

Plunkett picked up 70 yards on six carries and Stelzel added 46 yards on one carry.

EB, now 3-2 on the season, hosts Van Vleck next Friday.

The Leopards dropped a 10-0 decision to Brazos.
