Sealy runs away from Wharton in 24-3A opener

SEALY - Sealy took advntage of a huge second half to take a 34-12 victory over Wharton here at Tiger Stadium Friday night.

Wharton got on the board on the first possession of the game after they took over at their own 26.

On fourth and 5 from the Sealy 43, Wharton was forced to punt but Sealy was offsides on the play.

Two plays later Chris Taylor ran the ball in from 36 yards out for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion attempt failed leaving the score 6-0 with 7:40 left in the first quarter.

Wharton was about to take that lead into halftime but Orie King recovered a fumble and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown.

Victor Luna added the extra point making the score 7-6 going into the half.

Sealy added to their lead on the first drive of the second half when Brett Reichardt ran the ball in from four yards out capping off a nine play, 61 yard drive. Luna added the extra point making the score 14-6 with 7:16 left in the half.

After Wharton was forced to punt, Sealy took over at the Wharton 45 yardline with 1:35 left in the third quarter.

Three plays later Freddie Harrison ran the ball in from 12 yards out for a touchdown. Luna added the extra point making the score 21-6 with 1:01 left in the third quarter.

Wharton cut into the lead on their next drive when Robert Hererra connected with Jonavon Jones for a 17 yard touchdown pass.

The 2-point conversion was no good leaving the score 21-12 with 10:25 left in the game.

Harrison returned the kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. Luna's extra point was no good leaving the score 27- 12 with 10:11 left in the game.

Dexter Downey added to Sealy's lead with 5:03 left in the game when he ran the ball in from 35 yards out for a touchdown. Luna's extra point made the score 34-12.

Taylor rushed for 80 yards on 15 carries. Triston Washington picked up 62 yards on four carries,

Wharton totaled 186 yards for the game.

Wharton dropped to 0-4 on the season and 0-1 in district play and hosts Royal who beat Stafford 18-6.
