Lueras attend veteran reunion
Who's News
Liliana Johse

Happy birthday to Donna Chmelik, Justin Vaughan and Edith Borak.

David and Nifa Luera traveled to San Antonio in order to attend the 78th AAA Gun Battalion Korean War Veterans reunion at the Radisson Market Square Hotel. David and Nifa hosted this event which was the first one being held in Texas. There were 52 people attending from Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, Arizona, Virginia and many other states. They say it was a very good turnout considering the ages of the veterans being from middle 70s to late 80s. They all enjoyed San Antonio and the company of old buddies.

The Lueras were surprised when a photographer from a local television station called to say he was coming to interview David. It was televised on the 6 p.m. news. Ninfa and David brought tamales and cookies. Jackie and Harold LeBlanc from Marrero, La., provided cookies, shrimp mold and shrimp salad. Dorothy and Don Manuel from Lake Charles, La., provided boudin and chips. Refreshments were also available throughout the reunion. On Saturday night the hotel had a banquet which consisted of beef and chicken fajitas with all the trimmings, tacos, tamales, enchiladas, borracho beans and Spanish rice with lots of pico de gallo, which some of the guests had not eaten before. They enjoyed the food especially the trio which played for entertainment. Can you guess who sang along with the trio? Of course, it was Ninfa! On Sunday everyone parted ways and the next meeting place will be held next October in Missouri.

A University of Chicago study released in April says the happiest and most satisfied of all American workers are the clergy. They were followed by firfi.ghters at 80 percent and physical therapists 78 at percent. So, if you want to do work that makes you feel satisfied and happy, forget about chasing the big bucks. Focus instead on finding a job that has you serving other people.

Welcome back to Sandra Fojtik. Sandra is a registered nurse who works at GCMC as a case manager and has been with the hospital for many years. She was out four months due to health reasons. She came back to work last week wearing a brace on her left foot but is definitely getting better. We are glad to have her back in the work force.

David Schroeder was in Dallas recently on business.

Margie Dornak is now retired from Texana. She says she is very busy, she doesn't know how she went to work with so much to do at home. She is looking great.

Delores Cox was another friend whom I hadn't seen in a long while. She is working for Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City but misses everyone in Wharton after many years working at GCMC. Another friend who just retired but is working more at home is Phil Hart. His beautiful lady Lucille Hart says that after 30 years living in the same home, he is doing some remodeling and a lot of work at home. Lucille works at the Work Source.

Saw Harry Priesmeyer at the 100 Club Dinner, we spoke briefly but he just transferred from Rosenberg to Wharton with the Work Force. Welcome back to Wharton Harry.

Our Denise Francoeur took a long vacation home to Marseille, France. She always has an enjoyable time when she goes home. I know exactly how she feels. Denise is now back at her boutique taking care of her customers. Good to have you back.

Have a good weekend. Drive careful and maybe we'll get cooler weather. See you next week.
