Wharton cross country runners compete at Sweeny Invitational

CAMP KARANKAWA - Wharton boys and girls runners competed in Saturday's Sweeny Invitational Cross Country meet held at Camp Karankawa.

Wharton didn't have a complete five-member team to accumlate points in the standings.

Kempner won both divisions. Angleton finished second in the boys standings and Needville was third in the girls.

Shain Pala from Kempner won the boys 3-mile race with a 16:05 time.

Teammate Errol Hampton finished scond with a 16:22 and Matt Cortez was third with a16:43.

For Wharton, Andrew Hernandez finished 34th among the 84 runners with a 19:09 time.

Pedro Luna was 38th with a 19:16 and Kris Kubecka finished 65th with a 20:03.

Stafford's Jasmine Dalton won the girls division with a 2-mile time of 12:37.

Angleton's Dorian Lopez was second with a 13:08 and Kempner's Hiba Kreidre was third with a 13:10.

Wharton's lone female runner Angel Martinez finished 60th with a 16:45. Wharton competes at the Weimar Invitational this Saturday.
