JV tennis team wins pool at Fort Bend ISD tournament

SUGAR LAND - Wharton's junior varsity won it's pool at last weekend's Fort Bend Junior Varsity Invitational Team Tennis Tournament.

Wharton beat Dulles 11-8 Friday morning and Kempner 15-4 later in the day.

Then on Saturday Wharton took 10 of 19 matches from Fort Bend Austin.

"We are very proud of this team," said Wharton coach Roben Eller. "They beat some very good teams."

In boys singles matches against Dulles, Manesha Perea won 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Cody Coufal lost 6-2, 6-2; Johnny Castro lost 6-1, 6-1; Jake Jarvela lot 6-0, 6-1; Landon Sneed lost 6-2, 6-2 and Taylor Cline lost 6-0, 6-1.

In girls singles matches, Megan Lesak won 6-1, 6-1. Shaina Lowe won 6-2, 6-2; Kendall Watson won 7-6, 6-1; Gina Wuthrich won 6-2, 6-4; Amanda Billings lost 6-2, 7-6 (10-4); Lindle Pennington won 6-0, 6-0 and Trisha Thornton lost 6-1, 6-3.

In boys doubles matches, Jarvela and Lowe won 7-5, 7-5. Perera and Coufal lost 6-1, 6-2 and Castro and Sneed lost 4-6, 7-6 (10-3.)

In a mixed doubles match, Lanza and Pennington won 6-3, 6-1.

In boys singles matches against Austin, Jarvela won 6-4, 5-7 (10-5); Perrera lost 6-2, 6-2; Coufal lost 7-5, 6-0 and Chip Doetsch lost 6-1, 7-5.

In girls matches, Lesak won 6-1, 6-3. Lowe won 7-5, 6-0; Watson won 6-2, 6-1; Billings won 1-6, 7-5 (10-40; Pennington lost 6-4 (10-9) and Trisha Thorton lost 6-0.

In boys doubles matches, Perera and Coufal lost 6-5, 6-1. Doetsch and Castro won 7-6, 1-6 and Jarvela and Sneed won 6-1, 6-1.

In girls doubles matches, Lowe and Billings won 6-3, 6-2. Wuthrich and Lesak won 7-5, 6-2 and Watson and Elizabeth Masek lost 6-1, 6-4.

And in a mixed doubles match, Lanza and Pennington lost 6-4, 6-2.

In boys singles matches against Kempner, Perera won 6-2, 6-1. Coufal lost 8-5; Johnny Castro won 6-4, 7-5; Jarvela lost 6-4, 7-5; Sneed won 6-5 and Lanza lost 7-5, 7-5.

In girls singles matches, Lesak won 6- 4, 6-2. Lowe won 6-0; Watson won 6-2, 6-0; Wuthrich won 6-2, 6-1; Billings won 8-3, 6-2 and Pennington won 6-2, 7-6.

In boys doubles matches, Perera and Coufal won 6-4,4-6 (10-6); Castro and Sneed won 6-4, 3-6 (10-6); and Jarvela and Lowe won 6-3, 6-2.

In girls doubles matches, Lowe and Billings won 6-3, 6-2. Wuthrich and Lesak won 6-3, 6-4 and Watson and Masek won 6-3, 6-2.

And in a mixed doubles match Lanza and Pennington won 6-3, 6-2.
