BOLING - Boling's football team will get an extra week to regroup from last Friday's loss to cross-county rival Louise.
The Hornets built a 20-6 halftime lead, picking up two touchdowns in the second quarter, and then they picked up two more touchdowns on their way to finishing off Boling in a 35-14 victory.
"I just think we came out flat," said Boling coach Neal Majeski.
"When you're a young team you're going to have some situations where you are going to learn.
"We're in charge of having the kids prepared and we have to be ready mentally."
But he credited Louise for their efforts.
"We did not play well but I'm not taking anything away from those guys," said Majewski.
"They wanted to win and deserved to win. They had a lot to do with us not playing well."
"You have to put it behind you but you don't want to forget it," said Majewski.
Boling, now 1-2 on the season, returns to action Oct. 6 to play at Class 3A Palacios.
And Boling will have their hands full when they visit Palacios, who is 3-1 after thrashing Danbury 50-0 last week. The Sharks host Victoria St. Joseph Friday.
"The loss is only one loss and it's not time to throw up the flag or get super ultra concerned. We have time to pick up the pieces and make it right."
"Having one more game to kind of get over the hump of what's gone on may work to our advantage,
"They are extremely good," said Majewski of the Sharks who lost to Edna by one point.
District 27-2A play starts Friday with East Bernard taking on Danbury and Van Vleck hosting Brazos.
The Bulldogs' first district game is on Oct. 12 with a road game against the Panthers.
"At this point in our season where we are, it's not tough waiting until district starts," said Majewski. "It could be an advantage for us.
"A bye week and having one game to get over the hump of what's going on may work to our advantage.'
When Boling had its first Friday off on Sept. 13, Majewski's priority was conditioning. This week it's something different.
"This week will be more about execution," said Majewski. "We need to go back over the finer points and just reiterating them all over again."
As far as the district race, Majewski expects a tight one.
"From the get go I knew a bunch of teams were on the bubble and could go either way," said Majweski. "It's going to come down to the end and I see that happening.
Boling visits county rival East Bernard on the final week, Nov. 9.
"I can't think of anybody who takes the cake walk," said Majewski.
"Everybody is getting tested and you always hope that it pays off for you once district rolls around."
