Humidity and temperature disguise the coming of Fall With highs near 90 and humidity still making the air thick, Wharton County residents may have missed the coming of Fall Sunday. Few if any leaves were falling from the trees as the high recorded at El Campo Memorial Hospital hit 88 degrees that first day of Fall. Monday the temperature topped out at 89 at the ECMH Lower Colorado River Authority gauge. And the forecast for the rest of the week is for highs in the low 90's with lows around 71, according to the National Weather Service. Average highs don't drop into the low 80's in El Campo until next month while the lows are still anticipated to be near 60. The NWS Climate Prediction Center is calling for temperatures to be average in October although it is forecasting rainfall to be well above average - not too surprising considering almost 50 inches of rain has already fallen in the area. That trend is forecast to change in November and December, according to CPC data. The center is calling for a warmer and drier than normal winter. "Normal" for November is highs around 73 with lows around 50 while in December averages call for highs around 64 with lows around 43. The record high for October is 100 degrees set in 1991 while the record low for that month is 27 degrees set in 1917. During November, the temperature shot up to 94 degrees in 1963 and plunged to 10 degrees in 1911 while in December the high reached 93 in 1933 and the low dropped to 7 degrees in 1989. |
