No idle hands when Smith makes yo-yos

      The little three-inch rounds of cloth are called yo-yos and Evelyn Smith learned to make them during World War II. If she makes enough of them they can be used to create bedspreads, pillow covers or even pot holders.

      Lalo and Agnes Martinez were married on Aug. 24, 1947 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Newgulf. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 24 in Pharr at the home of their son. The event featured a family dinner and mariachi band entertaining a company of family and friends.

      GILL.7205.Wharton.9.19 9/18/ Trista Gordon Dominique Felder and Tristan Gordon, both of Wharton, announce the birth of their child, a girl, born at 1:40 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2007, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. The baby was named Trista La'Shaun Gordon and weighed 7 lbs., 14 ozs.

      The Wharton County Junior College Greenroom Players will present Nursery Time at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Horton Foote Theater on the Wharton campus. The one-hour entertainment is designed to appeal to the child in all people.
