7th grade Pups beat Cobras in season opener

BOLING - Iago's 7th grade football team beat Industrial 20-6 in Thursday afternoon's season opener at Bulldog Stadium,

John Allen Bock raced 70 yards for an Iago touchdown with four minutes left in the opening quarter.

The missed conversion left the Bullpups with a 6-0 lead.

Industrial got a touchdown to tie the score with two minutes left in the quarter.

Iago answered back quickly as Bock scored on a 28-yard run with five minutes left in the second quarter.

The touchdown was set up by a Zach Hession's 18- yard pickup one play earlier.

Jaylen Garcia added the 2-point conversion to put the Bullpups up 14-6.

Then with two minutes left, Bock raced 60 yards for a score. He finished with 220 yards rushing

The conversion try failed leaving the Bullpups with a 20-6 lead.

Before the half ended Josh Mares recovered an Industrial fumble to kill a Cobra threat.

Offensive line standouts included Kip Welch, Jacob Merecka and Kevin Zimmerman.

Defensive standouts included Antonio Vasquez, Riley Riojas and Aaron Sanchez.

Iago visits Louise next Thursday.

8th grade Pups lose

BOLING - Iago's 8th grade football team dropped a 34-0 decision to Louise in Thursday's season opener at Bulldog Stadium.

Iago fell behind 14-0 after the first quarter and 28-0 at halftime.

The Cobras picked up another touchdown in the third quarter to complete the scoring.

Iago's offensive standouts included quarterback Bobby Llanes, Michael Rios and Tyler Garza.

Defensive standouts included Darian Lunford, Michael Mendoza and Lance Hlavinka.

Iago plays at Louise next Thursday.
