Lady Pioneers win district opener
The Lady Pioneers lost the first game 30-26, won the second 30-28, lost the third 30-23 and battled back to win the next two 30-27, 15-13. "The girls really picked up their blocking which was what we've been working on in practice," said WCJC coach Brianna Flours. "They did everything I asked them to which was "just play." They were a little more relaxed and together this time. "We looked like the team I know we are. Hopefully we can play just as well this weekend against Laredo. "If we continue to hustle as hard as we did and play defense as we did against Lee, I will be content." Chelsie Fowler led WCJC's offensive attack with 14 kills. She also had three blocks, three digs and two aces. Boling graduate Emmy Rodgers contributed with 12 kills, seven blocks and two assists. Kadeem Brinkley and Helen Camarillo each had five kills. Brinkely also had two aces and eight digs, and Camarillo also had two blocks. Amanda Yeager and Christina Moceanu had two kills each. Yeager also had 15 assists with two aces and 12 digs. Moceanu had 118 assists and three aces. Tracey Beicker had three assists with 22 digs and one ace. Then on Thursday, WCJC lost to Laredo Community College 30-22, 30- 27, 30-17. Wednesday's match between Galveston Colllege and San Jacinto College was postponed because of Hurricane Humberto. It will be recheduled for a later date.WCJC plays at Galveston College next Tuesday and hosts Panola next Saturday in a 2 p.m. match. District M Standings
