Lady Tigers notch a 'Royal' win

BROOKSHIRE - Wharton's volleyball team made quick work out of Royal in Tuesday's District 24-3A match at Falcon Gymnasium.

The Lady Tigers beat the Lady Falcons 25-14, 25-10, 25-13 to improve to 2-0 in league play.

"We played a complete game," said Wharton coach Shauna Eller.

"Our goal was to keep Royal under 30 points for the match and we succeeded. The girls played hard and are looking forward to Friday's match against Columbus."

The Lady Cardinals beat Sealy in three games and own the same 2-0 record.

Needville beat Sweeny in four games and was 2-0 before playing Stafford - which is winless in district play - last night.

The 0-2 Lady Bulldogs played the Lady Falcons and 1-1 Sealy played 0-2 Stafford.

Heather Reynolds led Wharton's offensive attack with 11 kills. She also had one block, one assist and one ace.

Vernequa Taylor finished with seven kills, two assists, one dig and one ace.

Sharneace Johnson added five kills and two aces. Jalessa Jones had two kills and one block.

Shaninqua Dogins had five kills with four aces, one block and one dig.

Setter Megan Joost had 24 assists with two digs, two kills and two aces.

Brittany Gutierrez had a kill and an ace and Liz Reyes had three digs.

Wharton hosts Columbia next Tuesday and Needville next Friday.
