4-H'ers rewarded for their efforts
      Wharton County 4-H members received recognition for their year of hard work at the annual 4-H Awards Banquet on Aug. 11. This year's Gold Star senior 4-H winners are Laura Reyna of Wharton, Hannah Krenek of Boling and Shelby Cooper of El Campo.

      The First Presbyterian Church hosted the birthday party for the residents at Wharton Nursing and Rehab. Those members who came to celebrate were Robert Cody, well-known musician who played the organ. Bobby Kleas, another music lover who was the back up.

Dairy Merit Heifer validation Sept. 29
      The Dairy Merit Heifer validation and workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Wharton County Fairgrounds, beginning at 8 a.m. All exhibitors are required to bring their heifers and pay their $15 entry fee at this time.

      This year the Bulldog coaching staff has some talented new members. Coach Joe Hardee comes to BHS from Cuero. He is the defensive coordinator and head track coach. Joe teaches world geography and health. His wife Leslie now teaches in Damon.

      The Plaza Theatre group's annual membership drive is in full swing. Money raised through memberships is important not only in providing up-front money for the productions but also for paying the electric bills and maintenance on the theater.
