More than ten tons of goods are headed to American troops overseas thanks to Operation Care Drop.
An initiative of IBC Bank, the month-long program this summer collected care packages to support more than 36,000 of the nation's servicemen and women. IBC Bank's Wharton branch (located in H-E-B) joined 37 area branches and more than 200 additional locations in Texas and Oklahoma in serving as drop-off stations for the care packages. Operation Interdependence, a Civilian-to-Military Delivery System, helped pack and ship these packages, which contained such items as toiletries, treats and a personal letter.
"IBC Bank is proud to have played a role in spearheading this community-wide drive for care package supplies and to use our branch network for this wonderful cause," said Dennis E. Nixon, chairman and CEO of IBC's parent company International Bancshares Corporation.
"Our servicemen and women sacrifice so much to protect our freedoms, and we are glad that so many members of the community came together to help us prepare these small tokens of admiration and deep respect."
The Operation Interdependence program aims to provide each serviceman and woman with a care package during each month of their deployment. For those interested in continuing to support the program, visit the organization's website at: www.oidelivers.org.
