      Katie Louise Dortch of The Woodlands and David Allen Franks of Hungerford were united in marriage at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007. The double-ring ceremony was held at Pensacola Beach in Florida. Katie is the daughter of Jerry and Rita Dortch of The Woodlands.

      The Plaza Theatre, one of the Wharton community's greatest success stories, is on the move. The Plaza has just received a $3,000 grant to help beautify the facade. The grant comes from the Lower Colorado River Authority Employees United Charities.

Friends group meets tonight
      The Compassionate Friends is a national support group for parents who have lost children. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month at the First Presbyterian Church, 502 Eldridge, in Sugar Land. The next meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 pm.

Allens celebrate their golden anniversary
      and Gelee Allen announce their parents' 50th wedding anniversary. Wayne and Gelee were married on Aug. 29, 1957 at First Baptist Church in McAllen. They celebrated their anniversary this past weekend with family and friends at a Hinze's Bar-B-Que Restaurant luncheon hosted by their children.
