Workshop focuses on elderly falling risks An upcoming workshop will help elderly residents mitigate the risks of falling. Sponsored by the Council for Health, Education and Development and the Houston- Galveston Area Council - Area Agency on Aging Elderly & Caregiver Support Services, the four-hour workshop focuses on the causes of falling, direct and indirect costs of falling, the four basic strategies in fall prevention, intrinsic and extrinsic reasons for falls, the five major fall risk factors, prevention, precautions, and the five skills for better balance. In addition, there will be an assessment and exercise session to help set personal goals. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, in meeting room A of the Rosenberg Civic Center, 3825 Texas 36 South in Rosenberg. Admission is free, but reservations must be made before Sept. 20. Call 1-877-747-1542. Participants are encouraged to wear rubber-soled shoes and dress comfortably for classroom practice. Emphasis is on safety, independence and quality of life. Snacks will be provided. Certificates will be issued upon completion of course. |
